UOWCHK has a strong focus on developing students’ language abilities to prepare for their further studies and future professional development. In order to encourage students to pay extra efforts to improve their language proficiency, the College offers sponsorships for students taking language proficiency tests on their own initiatives. The sponsorships cover half of the test fees students pay for taking designated language proficiency tests. The proficiency tests sponsored by the College are listed below.

Government Subsidy for Student Exchanges

 

Introduction

 

Sub-degree and bachelor degree students (including UOW Top-up degree) studying in this College are eligible for Government financial support to participate in student exchanges. Subsidies are provided through four schemes maintained by the Education Bureau (EDB): 

 

  1. Scheme for Subsidy on Exchange for Post-secondary Students (SSE)
  2. Scheme for Means-tested Subsidy on Exchange to “Belt and Road” (B&R) Regions for Post-secondary Students (Means-tested SSEBR)
  3. Non-means-tested Mainland Experience Scheme for Post-secondary Students (Non-means tested MES)
  4. Scheme for Non-means-tested Subsidy on Exchange to “Belt and Road” (B&R) Regions for Post-Secondary Students (Non-means-tested SSEBR) 

 

Eligible Students

 

Applicants should meet the following criteria :

(a) Local students enrolled in full-time sub-degree / bachelor degree programmes of the College; and

(a) Either local/non-local students enrolled in fulltime sub-degree / bachelor degree programmes of the College.

Remarks :  The duration of an exchange programme should only cover the period from the commencement date to the completion date of the official programme.  Travelling time between Hong Kong and the exchange destination should not be counted.

(a) The maximum amount of subsidy to be granted to the applicant is calculated by adding up the subsidy under (i) and (ii) above, then discounted by his/her level of applicant finance (in terms  of percentage of full grant) approved by the SFO.

In individual cases where the level of student finance approved by the SFO is lower than 50%, the financial assistance level to be adopted in the calculation of the maximum amount of subsidy for the student under the SSE / Means-tested SSEBR should be adjusted upward to 50%.

(a) The maximum amount of subsidy to be granted to the applicant is calculated by adding up the subsidy under (i) and (ii) above.

(b) The applicant will be eligible to receive this subsidy once throughout their study in programme(s) at the same level of study.

 

(b) The applicant will be eligible to receive this subsidy twice at most throughout
their study in programme(s) at the same level of study, subject to a maximum amount of HK$60,000 discounted by the level of student finance or the adjusted financial assistance level of 50%, whichever level is higher.

(b) The applicant will be eligible to receive this subsidy once throughout
their study in programme(s) at the same level of study. 

(b1) The applicant will be eligible to receive this subsidy once throughout
their study in programme(s) at the same level of study.  
(b2) If the applicant has been subsidised to take part in an exchange activity in one of the B&R regions  under this scheme, he/she will have to participate in another exchange activity in another B&R in order to be eligible to receive further subsidy under Means-tested SSEBR, and vice versa.

(c) The applicant will not be eligible to receive subsidy under SSE / Means-tested SSEBR / Non-means-tested SSEBR if he/she has been subsidised under any of these schemes for the same destination.   Such restriction does not apply to the Non-means-tested MES.  

(d) The amount of subsidy granted to an eligible applicant should not exceed the direct costs arising from his/her participation in the concerned exchange activity.

(e) Applicants who have received previously assistance from other scholarships or support schemes wholly or partly funded by the Government / UOWCHK are also eligible to apply. But priority will be given to applicants who have not received such previous assistance.

(f) Except under very special circumstances, the subsidy will only be disbursed to applicant upon completion of the exchange programme.

Application Procedures

 

Applicants are required to complete an application form. The completed application form, together with all supporting documents, should be submitted to the following UOWCHK General Offices at least 4 weeks before the commencement of the exchange programme:
